Suffering from a Drought?

If you live in a region that is suffering from a lack of rain this time of year it's important to realize you can't save everything by watering. Don't despair...there is a method to follow. Trees deserve the special treatment over lawns, perennials and annual flowers and the vegetable plants because they are the most expensive to replace. Here's a simple guide on how and when to water in order to make the most of it.

  1. If you have a young tree, water every week and mature trees every two weeks. Water containers daily and other plants as you see needed.
  2. It's best to water early in the morning slowly and for a long period of time. The ground is very dry and hard so the moisture needs time to seep deep into the ground.
  3. The lawn has last priority. Water it once a month to keep it alive but don't try to keep it green. Most likely, brown grass has gone dormant and will revive with rainfall later in fall. Watering now will only be wasteful unnecessary.
